We see all the time on social media whenever a non-Black person does something that Black people like such as singing a Black song or doing a Black dance, people in the comments section will write “Oh, you’re invited to the cookout for sure!” Well WHERE exactly is this cookout being held, and at WHAT date and time? Well, that supposed cookout only existed in the air of social media. That is, until now. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you the OFFICIAL “You’re Invited To The Cookout” Cookout.
This is a cookout for anyone Black or non-Black who wants to obtain the experience of what it’s like to attend a Black cookout. You’ve heard the rumors, now come experience what it’s like to eat the food, drink the drinks, play the games, dance to the music, and hear the real uncensored conversations we have!
At this cookout, the food is prepared by Black people (so you know it’s gon’ be fire! 🔥) The menu will consist of food such as spare ribs, fried chicken, tilapia, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread. For those who are over 21 you can partake of Black inspired cocktails such as Hypnotiq and Hennesy or Gin and Juice, and a host of other drinks.
Expect to hear tunes from the 60’s up until the early 2000’s with an occasional modern day song thrown in here and there. We want to recapture the essence of when people threw a party and everyone was just focused on having a good time. We had groups like the O’Jays, Spinners, The Temptations, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, Earth, Wind and Fire, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, The Jackson 5 – the list goes on. The music reflected where we were as a people and how we were determined to stick together to make a way out of now way. And we partied our asses off! We want to recapture those moments so we will play music from the eras we feel capture those moments.
At the “You’re Invited To The Cookout” Cookout, you will have the opportunity to learn 3 different line dances which are popular in the Black community – The Wobble, the Cupid Shuffle and The Electric Slide. That’s worth the price of admission alone! After you learn these dances, then you can go home and impress all your friends by showing them what you learned!
We are in the beginning stages of planning these cookouts. So far the responses have been overwhelmingly positive and we are contemplating how best to expand our reach. Like DJ Khaled said, “We’re taking over, one city at a time.” We will make announcements on our page and on social media as to the next stops on our cookout tour.
No problem. You can reach out to the You’re Invited To The Cookout team at (240) 712-4255 or email us at hello@youreivitedtothecookout.com. We look forward to hearing from you. 😊
